USING THE COMMUNITY SPACE

We have a community space available for community and campaigning groups to meet or hold talks and events.

T

Who can use the Community Space?

The room is available for community, arts and campaign groups and individual and private bookings such as parties, socials, meetings or rehearsal space.

We particularly welcome bookings and events working for peace, human rights, social justice, the environment and community building. The community space is not available for groups that we feel advocate violence or oppression towards a particular group of people; this is at the discretion of Peace House residents.

How much does it cost?

We charge a small amount to cover our costs; the amount depends on the type of group or event. We can offer a discount for unfunded groups and by donation to voluntary groups working for peace, human rights, social justice and the environment. Please contact us with details of your event for prices. You can pay by cash or bank transfer and we can provide an invoice if you need it.

What facilities are there?

There is a small fully equipped kitchen, drinks making facilities, folding tables, chairs, toilets. The main room is wheelchair accessible including an accessible toilet. There is no WiFi unless this has been arranged separately.

What about cooking?

You are welcome to use the kitchen; but the whole building is vegetarian. This means you can’t cook or serve meat or fish.

How is it kept clean and tidy?

We rely on those using the space to maintain it and keep it clean and tidy, we don’t have a cleaner. If there are issues when you arrive then let us know, and make sure you leave everything clean and tidy when you leave.

This means no food leftover (please take any leftovers with you), surfaces and tables clear and wiped, chairs stacked, floor swept, sink clear and all crockery dried and put away.

When is it available?

The room is available between 9am to 8pm, depending on other bookings.

How many people can use it?

The room has a maximum capacity of 30 people.

I will be publicly advertising the event, is this ok?

Yes, this is fine. However make sure you have a confirmation of the booking before you do, and please flag this up in case people make enquiries to us directly.

Can we use the garden?

The garden is attached to the house next door. You can use the small paved yard outside the kitchen door, and access the outside toilets as part of your normal booking. However if you want to use the garden this will need to be booked additionally.

What about noise?

If the event will be noisy, more than conversation or background music, then please discuss this with us in advance. There is a radio available.

How do we get there?

We are on the 21 bus route towards Wood End, the bus goes over a canal bridge and past the house which is on your right. There is also a bike rack in the front garden if you are coming by bike, and there is some limited parking in the side streets (please don’t use the parking outside the neighbours house).

How do we get in?

We will leave a key in the key safe for you and tell you the code when you book. This key is for the white front door; when you twist the key the handle will open the door. Make sure that before you leave you twist the key again and check the handle to make sure it doesn’t open and put the key back in the black key safe.

How does the heating work?

The thermostat for the heating is on the wall in the big room. If it is cold you can boost the heating by unlocking it if the lock symbol is showing (Press ‘A’ and ‘Down’ together for 10 seconds) then boost it by pressing ‘H’ then ‘Up’ to get the temperature you need, then ‘H’ again and ‘Up’ to the number of hours you want the heating to stay on, and then ‘A’ to accept and switch it on. Lock it when you finish by pressing ‘A’ and ‘Down’ until the lock symbol shows again.

Ok, that sounds great. How do I make a booking?

E-mail info@covpeacehouse.org.uk, or contact one of the house residents if you already know us. Give us some details of your group and your event, what times you want to book (including using the kitchen if you are cooking first) and anything extra like noise for us to consider. Then we will contact you within 7 days with any questions or to confirm the booking.

Your contact from the Peace House will be the person who made your booking with you, and we will ask for a lead person for your event. This is the person we will contact with any issues around the booking and will be responsible for opening and closing afterwards.
